Welcome
The Collaborative Research Center (Sonderforschungsbereich - SFB 488) of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) „Molecular and cellular bases of neural development“ welcomes all, who are interested in its research projects.
The Collaborative Research Center 488 was founded in January 2000 and constitutes the first DFG center that focuses exclusively on developmental neurosciences.
Three project areas and 21 individual projects (including 2 Independent Junior Research Groups) study the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying induction, pattern formation, cell fate determination, axon growth and pathfinding, cell death, synaptogenesis, and development of neuronal networks. A long-term goal is to gain a more profound knowledge of complex neuronal systems and higher brain functions through an analysis of their development.
The Collaborative Research Center SFB 488 includes groups of the University of Heidelberg, Hadassah University - Jerusalem, EMBL, German Cancer Research Center and Max-Planck-Institute for Medical Research. The SFB 488 arranges different seminar series and actively participates in graduate teaching. The SFB 488 is the largest group of scientists within the Interdisciplinary Center for Neurosciences (IZN) at Heidelberg University.
